Commercial and public service announcement for preserving the bald eagle population; scenes of the bald eagle flying through the sky, and hunting for food by plucking fish out of the water; male voiceover: “Symbol of power, courage, and freedom: the American bald eagle once soared over the continental United States by the tens of thousands. The emblem of this nation’s sovereignty and independence: his magnificent flight is an uncanny vision, his strength and skill inspired the founding fathers of this country to choose him as a living symbol of a proud, new nation. We’ve been destroying him ever since: we have cut his nesting trees, stolen his eggs, poisoned the waters where he fishes, and maliciously, illegally blown him out of the sky! The job has been done too well: except for Alaska, there are only about 2900 bald eagles left in the U.S. Some people are trying to change that; you can, too! The National Wildlife Federation needs you to help save the eagles! To learn how you can help, write to this address (the NWF address is superimposed onto a backlit eagle on the screen). Do it now, while you’re national symbol is still alive!”
