Film begins with shot of sign which says: "Harlem Apartment's" as music plays. Shot of another sign which says: "Samson Peabody Janitor/ Ethel - - - Asst." Camera pans down to the bottom half of woman sweeping floor. Three tenants approach woman and make complaints about problems in their apartments in song, asking for her husband. The camera continues to show only the bottom half of the actors. Woman slams down her broom and begins walking fast. Shot of Ethel Waters in head scarf opening the door to an outdoor porch where a man lies in a hammock with a newspaper over his head. Ethel Waters grabs the newspaper off his face and begins chastising her husband in song: "Taking Your Time" [?] Husband continues to sleep.
