The visiting panner walks and greets men with hats and shovels. Shot of him calling out to someone he knows who has a pickaxe and uses a pan to scoop dirt. His friend says he has “some color” in the pan, meaning he may have found gold, and both men exit. While they stand in the river and sift the pan, the narrator explains that gold sinks to the bottom and other metals sift out. Closeup of gold flakes in the pan. Cut to a device called a cradle that also sifts gold. Shot of a water mill.
