Graham McNamee announces that the worst drought in fifty years has griped the nation. There is a shot of the Missouri river which is running low on water and has almost dried up. A farmer shows off his wheat crop which has dried up. Another farm with small stalks which may not bear food follows. Water is trucked in to save crops. Dying and dead cattle are shown. A water truck is used to haul water from city fire hydrants. Scene ends with a hard of malnourished cattle crowding round a little water on the ground.
