Two couples sit at a diner after their junior prom. A narrator comments on the encounter. Jerry, Margaret's date, exemplifies proper etiquette by suggesting to her a dish on the menu she may like. Frank, Helen's date, exemplifies poor manners by not initially suggesting a dish to Helen. The narrator explains that by suggesting a dish, the male gets to tell his date how much he can afford to spend on her without any embaressment. Jerry notices that Frank and Margaret look unhappy, so he exemplifies proper communication skills by asking the two what is bothering them. Margaret and Frank now realize their jealous feelings from the dance were foolish.
