Here’s a clip of members of the Black Panthers, marching in front of the County of Alameda Administration Building in Oakland, California, during the late '60s. The footage is silent.
The Panthers march in a single line, chanting some chant, strutting, swinging their arms and tilting from side to side, showing confidence and swagger. Their movement is reminiscent of an Army platoon, marching in formation. Many of the men have afros, and many of the Panthers are wearing black clothing and leather. There are at least two men who are standing off to the side of the single file line of marchers. These men, who are wearing hats, appear to be the leaders of the group.
The footage of the Panthers is intercut with footage of children running through a field in slow motion toward the camera.
