1950s
Clip gives a snapshot of '50s Washington D.C.
Shows several monuments of D.C., like the Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial.
Shows the National Archive Building, headquarters of NARA and home of the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. As the clip's narrator states, these important, historical documents are on display during the day and guarded at night. A queue of people look through a glass case to view the documents.
We see exterior and interior shots of the National Gallery of Art, including the Gallery's famous rotunda.
In Arlington, Virginia, there is also The Tomb of the Unknown Solider, one of the most revered national shrines of America. Arlington is separate from D.C. by the Potomac River though bound to D.C. by tradition, says the narrator.
Medium shot of a marble slab that reads: "HERE RESTS IN HONORED GLORY AN AMERICAN SOLDIER KNOWN BUT TO GOD."
