African-American students sit in a classroom of an all-black segregated elementary school, they all have their heads down reading at their desks. The teacher stands at the far side of the classroom writing on the blackboard, with all of the students looking on and taking notes. Smiling African-American students run on the playground toward the camera, waving. Students move about on a play structure, or jungle gym, and other students swing on swings, some of them are doubled up - two people per swing. They swing back and forth and look at the camera. In a wide shot of the playground at recess, students climb up the ladder of the slide and take turns sliding down. A little girl in a white dress jumps up and down as a group of students stands around in a circle watching her jump-roping, double-dutch style.
