This ‘70s clip shows Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers protesting against several food businesses in San Leandro, California.
The protest was Chavez’s effort to get the word out about the unfair business practices of the United Brands Company, Chiquita Banana, Morell Meats, and A&W Root Beer. The protest was meant to alert consumers about what these businesses were doing, encourage local governments to support the workers of these companies, and to, ultimately, boycott their products.
Clip begins with Cesar Chavez and his followers briskly walking down a sidewalk and holding signs. They walk past homes and small businesses.
Chavez and his crew take a break in a park - resting, chatting, and smoking cigarettes - before continuing with their march.
