Begins with baskets of vegetables and stands at a farmer’s market. After a still of a silo and another market, is a grain elevator spilling grain into a large container. The VO talks about grain trade and then goes to the Board of Trade in Chicago which is a tall skyscraper. Inside, brokers are yelling on the crowded market floor, gesturing and swinging their arms. A woman’s voice explains the process and how the trading leads to food like macaroni, margarine and soybean oil. She explains all the hand signals the traders use to buy and sell. Ends with a man writing prices on a black board and a huge price board labeled “corn”.
