An animated diagram shows the first experiments with an amplifying semiconductor. Using germanium, water, wire and wax, the system uses the potential of the electrolyte water, to influence the current going through the insulated wire. A real life example of the same experiment is shown. Water evaporates too quickly so it is replaced by a spot of gold, a superconductor. With the gold, they had created the new transistor effect.
