Film from the 1910s/1920s that documents the journey of a the “Steel Horse of the Twentieth Century Limited”train from its caboose starting at the Grand Central Terminal in New York. Camera attached near front of train so that train only slightly in frame. Multiple tracks lie parallel to the train’s; moves through forested, snowy mountains. Words on light and observation and curves on black screen. Still in mountains, train moves into dark tunnel. Emerges into more industrial landscape. Words “Every crossing must be signalled for fools who won’t “stop, look and listen”.” Man in buggy begins to slowly cross track. CU captain looking urgent; yells and rings bell; buggy crosses inches before the train. CU train wheels moving. Profile of captain leaning forward alertly. Train, shot from front, reaches industrial rafter-like structure. Captain shakes his head scoldingly and speaks briefly towards camera. Words comment the captain is always watchful.
