An American army convoy approaches Salerno, Italy, by sea as part of an operation to invade Nazi Europe. The American Fifth Army comes ashore and establishes a beachhead. Combat footage on the Italian shoreline. Large battleships ferry men and supplies to shore. The Americans are repelled at first, but as armored units are brought ashore, they take the offensive. General Mark Clark commands the offensive from the beach. After the operation, General Dwight Eisenhower and British Admiral John Cunningham negotiate the Axis surrender of Italy.
