Excerpt from a Laurel and Hardy comedic short titled Their First Mistake (1932)

Laurel shows up and blows Hardy's cover by revealing Hardy's lies to his wife about spending time with Laurel. She fights with them both and then storms off after threatening to divorce Hardy if he continues to see his friend. The two friends talk about how much they mean to each other, with Laurel asking if he is more important than Hardy's wife, with Hardy being intentionally mysterious in his answer (implying a romantic relationship?!). Laurel suggests adopting a child to occupy his wife's attention so that they can spend more time together.
