First U.S. Satellite Launched!; February 1958; At Cape Canaveral, Florida, we see men working on the rocket as it waits on the launching pad. Then we see men introducing the satellite at a press conference. Men sit at control stations among many buttons, then the rocket is launched. There is a close-up of the rocket as it speeds vertically past the camera, fire trailing behind it. Then against the dark sky, the distant rocket is seen only by its glowing fire.
