In this clip, from a silent film telling the story of the Puritans, a man with an ailing wife is convinced to join an attack on Merrymount, a Puritan settlement known for its debauchery. The battle begins. In MWS, a husband gets his wife a glass of water as she lay in bed. In LS, a man enters their home and speaks to the boy. The man talks to the other man in the Elizabethan collar, then grabs a gun. The father kisses his son, then exits the hut. He joins the others in front of Governor Winthrop’s house. This group of men with guns climb down a rock hill in a forest on their way to Merrymount. In LS, some Indians fight and wrestle as settlers look on, encouraging the fight. One of the Indians tries to get the attention of the men as he aims the gun at something off screen. A puff of smoke is seen on the right of the screen in the next shot, then we see the Indian grab his chest as he falls dead. In LS pilgrims with guns come over a large rock cliff over Merrymount and begin shooting. They continue to attack the other settlement.
